WEST PALM BEACH 1920'S SUNSHINE PARK RESIDENTS CHOSE NOT TO BECOME A HISTORIC LANDMARKED AREA

Chosen as a "Neighborhood of the Week" by the Palm Beach Post, there are about 120 homes in the Sunshine Park area, most having Spanish and Moorish influences, craftsman-like handiwork, lovely gardens and sidewalks in front.  Wood floors are featured, sometimes Dade Country pine, sometimes wood ceilings, and usually at least one fireplace.  Homes often have updated kitchens and baths. Fences offer privacy and tranquility.  There is no HOA, no manned gate, no community pool or clubhouse.   Residents say when they take a walk in the evening they often wind up strolling into someone’s front porch for neighborly chats.  This section has five streets running north and south and about the same area running east and west.

Current homes on market as of 5-17-2014 range from 3- and 4- to 6-bedrooms, 1453 to 4117 living sq ft and prices start at $279,000 with the highest list price at $1,695,000.  The highest priced home is Mediterranean style with Moorish accents and designer interiors, private pool and patio, built in 1924.   Outdoor shower included.  Patio eat-in area with arbor above.  Typical glorious 1920’s craftsmanship, finely tooled wood trims, 4 sets of living room French Doors, original fireplace mantel and earth tone tiles, and matching tiled floors.  There are wall sconces and ornate Moorish doors, chandelier and wood beams in dining room.  Master suit is on first floor.  Crown moldings abound.  Kitchen is updated with medium dark wood, stainless steel appliances, center island and pale green tiled counter tops.  It is on a corner lot and there are sidewalks.  European front courtyard includes beautiful plantings. Garden with blue tiled fountain and wrought iron bench.

The least expensive home is Spanish style, built in 1928, with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, 1745 living sq ft.  Beautiful medium dark hardwood floors prevail and 2 bedrooms are tiled. Living room has fireplace, anteroom has wood ceiling.  Updated kitchen has granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances.  All 3 bathrooms have been all renovated.   Fenced yard and pavered patio.  One story.  Sidewalks.

Many residents have lived in this section for many years. If you are in the area, take a stroll around the neighborhood and meet and talk to the residents along the way.  You too will come away with the feeling that this is a small, friendly intimate area, convenient to downtown and the beaches.
