HISTORIC HOUSE WITHOUT A HOME
Built in 1903, the Stambaugh Cottage still has not yet found a home. It was said to have belonged to Henry Flagler's engineer who worked on plans to dredge the Lake Worth Inlet and created Peanut Island. Plans to move it there did not work out. Also mentioned was the thought to move it to Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds.
The house is currently floating, empty, on a barge in the Riviera Beach Municipal Marina. It had been lifted off its foundation to make way for new construction.
The Stambaughs have given the keys and ownership to a contractor who plans to do about $100,000 in restorations and is looking for a property in West Palm Beach to put the house on.
