LANDMARKED PALM BEACH WYETH HOME SELLS FOR $11.7MM

Built in 1925, “Bel Riposo” at 181 Clarendon Avenue in the Vita Serena subdivision of Palm Beach was designed by architect Marion Sims Wyeth in Venetian Gothic style.  In 2006, the Palm Beach Town Council granted the property a 10-year ad valorem tax exemption for historic properties after extensive architectural and engineering improvements were approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission and completed according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

This Mediterranean-style 7000’ living sq ft waterfront house has 5 bedrooms, an elevator, guesthouse, 125’ dock on 225+ ft of Intracoastal Waterway frontage.  Assessed at $4MM for 2010, the property recently sold for $11.7MM.

Wyeth (1889-1982) was architect for 100+ residences in Palm Beach, one of its foremost architects.  Graduating in 1910 from Princeton University he then studied at and graduated from Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.   He opened his Palm Beach office in 1919.  Wyeth completed the original Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach and then built homes for high society.  He was the original architect for Mar-A-Lago. He designed the Bethesda-by-the-Sea rectory, the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee and the Norton Gallery of Art.  One of his homes can be seen on just about every street in Palm Beach.  In 1981 Wyeth received an award for architecture” that stood the test of time” from the Palm Beach Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
