Built in 1925, “Bel Riposo” at 181 Clarendon Avenue in the Vita Serena subdivision of Palm Beach was designed by architect Marion Sims Wyeth in Venetian Gothic style. Wyeth (1889-1982) was architect for 100+ residences in Palm Beach, one of its foremost architects. Graduating in 1910 from Princeton University he then studied at and graduated from Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He opened his Palm Beach office in 1919. Wyeth completed the original Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach and then built homes for high society. He was the original architect for Mar-A-Lago. He designed the Bethesda-by-the-Sea rectory, the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee and the Norton Gallery of Art. One of his homes can be seen on just about every street in Palm Beach. In 1981 Wyeth received an award for architecture” that stood the test of time” from the Palm Beach Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
