LANDMARKED PALM BEACH WYETH HOME SELLS FOR $11.7MM



Built in 1925, “Bel Riposo” at 181 Clarendon Avenue in the Vita Serena subdivision of Palm Beach was designed by architect Marion Sims Wyeth in Venetian Gothic style.  In 2006, the Palm Beach Town Council granted the property a 10-year ad valorem tax exemption for historic properties after extensive architectural and engineering improvements were approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission and completed according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

This Mediterranean-style 7000’ living sq ft waterfront house has 5 bedrooms, an elevator, guesthouse, 125’ dock on 225+ ft of Intracoastal Waterway frontage.  Assessed at $4MM for 2010, the property recently sold for $11.7MM.

Wyeth (1889-1982) was architect for 100+ residences in Palm Beach, one of its foremost architects.  Graduating in 1910 from Princeton University he then studied at and graduated from Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.   He opened his Palm Beach office in 1919.  Wyeth completed the original Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach and then built homes for high society.  He was the original architect for Mar-A-Lago. He designed the Bethesda-by-the-Sea rectory, the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee and the Norton Gallery of Art.  One of his homes can be seen on just about every street in Palm Beach.  In 1981 Wyeth received an award for architecture” that stood the test of time” from the Palm Beach Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

DELRAY BEACH 1931 HISTORIC HOUSE SOLD AFTER NEARLY A YEAR ON THE MARKET



With a possible two buildable lots, needing city approval to split, the property at 1604 North Swinton measures .6127 acres.  There is a 1608 living sq ft house with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and a two car garage on the property that fronts on west side  of Swinton where other homes of that era have been rebuilt, torn down and restored.   This charming wood cottage needs work.  The subdivision is High Acres Delray.

The property sold for $418,000, originally priced at $1MM in 2007, then off the market and back in 2009 for $750,000.  Realist shows sale price as $209,000 but MLS shows it as $418,000.   The property shows closed in May 2011, but the transfer is not yet recorded on the property records.

There is a “1 bath efficiency” guest house on the property.   Lf Style Homes is the buyer.
